The Magic Busa is the longest highline on the Iberian Peninsula

- Categories : News

The highline is the height modality of the slackline, which consists of walking balancing on an elastic band anchored between two points. The highline-practice, which always is used by a safety harness, began in Catalonia more than ten years ago, by the time when the longest lines did not exceed much as 50 meters. Since then it has done nothing but evolve. The number of trainees has also increased and for that reason a few months ago the Catalan Association of Highline was founded, it is the first association in Spain dedicated exclusively to the height modality of the slackline. Its objective is on the one hand, to promote a safe and responsible practice with the environment and on the other, to obtain greater institutional and legal recognition, since the practice of this sport is constantly prevented by the lack of regulation and ignorance from the authorities. With that goal in mind, the first project of the Association has been installing and walking along the first line over more than one kilometer in length at the Iberian Peninsula, a project in which the participation of Fixe has been crucial, in behalf of equipment material, such as the essential ropes for its installation. After an intensive setup and logistical organization, the project began on December 5 in Serra de Busa. The installing process lasted two days; the first day was exclusively dedicated to assemble the link, that means, to pass all the Fixe lines from one anchor to the other, and the second was spent carrying out the transfer of the highline tape, a process that lasted until well into the night. Bernat Figueras made the first record attempt, after tightening the tape, on Tuesday 7, which he achieved in a time of 45 minutes. Thereupon, Figueras revalidated the national record, which he shared with his partner Jordan Falcon, increasing the mark from 750 meters to one kilometer. After Bernat, the rest of the trainees joined in, who were able to enjoy this 1,032-meter line for the next six days. Lucas Giovanni Moreira, from the French collective Slackline Mont Blanc, managed to run the entire tape for the second time and without mistakes, even so after Bernat. Figueras subsequently lowered his own time by 15 minutes, setting the record in just 30 minutes. On January 15, the full video about the story of Magic Busa will be released.
