Centuries of experience, futuristic vision. Over 130 years of manufacturing climbing ropes
The history of the climbing rope company Roca, founded by Joan Roca Ballesta in 1891, has always been closely tied to innovation and a commitment to safety in the field of climbing.
Joan Roca Ballesta initially began by manufacturing mechanical braids, gaskets, asbestos, and cordage. This was the core of the company's activities during its first 35 years of existence.
Over the first 112 years of Roca's existence, the company produced more than 160,000 kilometers of rope, which is equivalent to circling the Earth four times or making more than 18,000 ascents of Everest.
In 2012, during the global financial crisis, Roca filed for bankruptcy. It was at this moment that Tech Rock S.L. (now Fixe Climbing S.L.) decided to acquire the brand. This purchase saved a brand that had become a reference in the climbing rope industry from disappearing and also opened the doors to a more global market.
Production initially resumed at Roca's headquarters in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, but it eventually moved to Sant Quirze de Besora, where ropes are still produced today (with the same personnel, know-how, and state-of-the-art machinery), now under the brand name Fixe.
